Book Club Picks
Way back in 2019, one of my New Year's resolutions was to start a local book club. I'd been a part of book clubs in the past but life and the passage of time had somehow dissolved those groups and I was ready to be a part of a reading community again. In order to do this, I had to get way out of my comfort zone and just put a request out there--I opened it up to anyone who was interested and hoped that a) I would get at least a few people interested and b) those people wouldn't be assholes. Fortunately for me, I had a great response to my invite and the group is totally asshole-free!
I wanted this book club to be a little different in the fact that we would always have more than one book to choose from--I never liked it when the monthly pick was something I had absolutely no interest in reading. I also like to do book "pairings" or choosing titles that are related in some way (sometimes it's obvious, sometimes not!). Finally, I always try to mix up the genre--non-fiction with a mystery, or a new release with a backlist memoir. In the beginning, we only met every few months so this option worked out great. When Covid hit, we met via zoom in the winter months, and outside in warmer times; we also tended to meet more frequently since we were all losing our minds. I adore this group of readers and truly appreciate their kindness and friendship.

The Mystery of Mrs. Christie
I know I just said we always have more than one pick, but I was late choosing a title and sending it to the group. In other words, we really only had time to read one book before our meeting date.
