Brief Synopsis: It's 1919, and Sam Wyndham is still traumatized by the Great War. Looking for a new start, the Scotland Yard detective transfers to India. He quickly finds himself part of a major case: the murder of a prominent British official, possibly at the hands of "native terrorists." With a great cast of supporting characters, Wyndham tries to navigate his new surroundings and solve the case; he might even exorcise some personal demons in the process.
Thoughts: This has been on my TBR list for a few years but when the book seller at Sunriver Books put it in my hand last month, I knew I was ready. And I was not disappointed! What a great mystery AND historical fiction about a country and time I know little about. I appreciate that this author is Indian by birth but raised in the UK--the authenticity of his experiences and knowledge shine through in these characters. He also does a fantastic job of explaining Indian history through dialogue and story telling; I learned quite a bit from this read. Further, the mystery itself was superb for which I was grateful (it's been a while since I've enjoyed a mystery this much.). I just found out that there are 4 more books in the series so I can't wait to continue my journey with Captain Wyndham.
