Brief Synopsis: Nahri is living on the streets of 18th century Cairo, surviving on her wits and a little bit of magic. But when she accidentally summons an ancient djinn warrior, she finds herself caught up on a difficult journey escaping enemies and learning more about her mysterious past. All roads lead to Daevabad, the legendary City of Brass; here is where Nahri will truly learn her fate.
Thoughts: I'm not a big fantasy fan but this became available at the library (yep, you heard that right--I GOT THIS FROM THE LIBRARY!!! Whoop-whoop we're back baby!) and I thought, why not? I think I tend to stay away from fantasy because I don't believe my brain is programmed for that type of world building. For example, I had the hardest time keeping all the characters straight, especially which group they belonged to and what happened to whom when--it took my a long time to get even a small grasp on what was actually happening. But once I found my rhythm (as well as an index in the back explaining everything--seriously, that should have been on page 1!) I found I enjoyed the story. I'd like to actually complete the series, hopefully I won't chicken out.
