Brief Synopsis: A man is brutally murdered and for some reason an ex-sheriff/ex-arson investigator is called in to help the FBI solve the case. The reason? As a life-long resident of a small, crime ridden Southern town, Dane Kirby is the just the man for the job. Throw in a missing boy genius with Asperger's, international cock fighting, drugs, and betrayal and you've got yourself a story.
Thoughts: I wanted to make sure I had a fast-paced thriller on my vacation and the stickers from Barnes & Noble assured me this would be a good choice. I'm not sure I would describe it as a "10 Best Crime Novels of 2020" but it kept me entertained. Apparently it's the third in a series but it sounds like they are just peripherally related so I don't think I missed out on too much. There is a strong Justified vibe to this book, which works for me but consider that a warning if graphic violence is not your thing.
