Brief Synopsis: There are so many layers to this story it's difficult to to summarize in just a few sentences. It mainly revolves around a lost manuscript and how it unites the many different lives in the story. It's part historical fiction, part sci-fi, part family drama. In this unique tale, the reader will travel around the world, into parallel universes, and learn how love and friendship unite us all.
Thoughts: Oh I really loved this story! The writing was wonderful and it's been a while since I was reading something where I honestly had no idea what might come next. It brings to mind Gabriel Garcia Marquez a little with its sense of magic. It also reminded me of The Blind Assassin in the way that there is a sci-fi tale within the greater story and the author of that sci-fi tale is surrounded in mystery. Adana's story alone is fascinating--a book about just her life would have been incredible by itself! I also loved all the little stories of the other characters and how they intertwined with the greater story. However, I did find myself wanting to know more about her son--a good deal of the book is about his childhood but then it jumps to him being an old man with no account of what happened in between. This is one of those books I may have to end up buying and reading again, that's how special it feels to me.
