The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

4 Stars Source: Christmas gift from Babs

Brief Synopsis: Nora's life is nothing like she imagined--a dead end job, no love life, and a ton of regret. Certain circumstances bring her to the Midnight Library, a place between life and death, where every book provides a chance to try another life you might have lived. As Norma begins to "try out" these other life versions, she starts to realize that there are many factors that make a life worth living and she quickly needs to discover which one is truly hers.

Thoughts: This book is a trip. It's like a mash up of the movie Sliding Doors and The Time Traveler's Wife, with a little of The Library of the Unwritten mixed in. The crazy part is that Norma isn't just making up these other lives--there are infinite number of other Normas out there living their own lives simultaneously to this one and Norma is just sliding into those lives/bodies to experience that reality to see if it fits. MIND EXPLODING! What I loved about the story is how it's so clear that our lives are shaped by a million tiny decisions; it's not realistic to think that another version of our life would be perfect, because any life is molded by the same heartaches/joys/issues, it's just how we respond to them that set's us on a new course. The multiverse is hard to explain but it makes for great storytelling.
