The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow

4.5 Stars Source: Library

Brief Synopsis: It's 1893 in a world like ours but not quite. Witches are supposedly a thing of the past, but racism and sexism are still very real and present. When a group of suffragists determines that the best way to further their cause is with some magic, the ways of the witches return. But as the witches gain power, the men of the world will do whatever it takes to burn them down (figuratively and literally).

Thoughts: This book was fantastic! I loved the premise of suffragists using the "forbidden" skills and spells of women before them to turn the tide of equal rights. The world building is both historically accurate while also adding new layers of fantasy and the result is storytelling perfection. The only reason why not 5 stars is I felt like it needed just a little more editing--the 517 pages felt a tad too long.
